The setup guide
The first time you open a map you can edit, a short setup guide walks you through getting the most out of it. It's four quick steps, and it only appears once per map — viewers never see it, and you can dismiss it whenever you like.
It exists because the app's best features rely on two things you have to opt into: EVE permissions and location sharing. The guide just gathers them up front so the map works properly from the start.
The four steps
- Welcome to the Map — a quick overview of what the setup will configure: API permissions, your visibility and tracking preferences, and location sharing.
- Grant Permissions — offers the EVE scopes that unlock live features, each with a one-click Grant button. They're all optional — the map works without them, you just lose the live parts. You can also Skip for now. (For what each scope does, see Connecting your character.)
- Configure Settings — two toggles:
- Location Monitoring — the master switch for letting the map use and share your location.
- Auto-tracking — automatically follows your movement through systems as you fly. It requires Location Monitoring to be on.
- Ready to Explore — a recap of what you can now do (clicking systems for detail, toggling your visibility, planning routes, and the settings menu), plus a summary of what you enabled.
Finish with Start Exploring! and the guide won't show again for that map.
The guide is about enabling features, not a limitation — everything it offers can also be changed later from the map and its settings. Skipping it just means you'll turn those things on yourself when you need them.
