Character presence
When tracking is on, the map shows where your group's characters are in real time — and that same live location is what powers mapping as you fly.
What you see
For each tracked character:
- the system they're currently in
- their ship type and name
- their online status and when they were last online
A background process polls EVE for the locations of online characters and broadcasts changes to everyone viewing the map, so positions update on their own within a short interval — no refreshing.
It's opt-in, per map
Two things must be true for a character to appear:
- Scopes — the character has granted the location, ship, and online scopes (see Connecting your character).
- Consent — you've turned on location sharing for that specific map (the "allow the map to use your location" toggle).
Consent is per-map, so you can share your location on your corp's home chain while staying invisible on another map. Turn it off and you immediately disappear from that map. Seeing other people's positions also requires Member access or higher.
